SafeEdge MEDICAL TRAY

POUCH PUNCTURE - THE INDUSTRY NEED

Many Medical Device Manufactures (MDM’s) require the rigidity of a tray for packaging their medical device, however, to reduce cost, prefer to place the tray inside a pouch versus die-cut lid.

One of the major issues identified by MDM's in medical device packaging is the interaction between a pouch and rigid thermoformed tray. In some cases this interaction can cause pinholes or tray flange creep into the sterile barrier seal of the pouch, resulting in a breach in the sterile barrier system. SafeEdge eliminates this industry wide issue. SafeEdge rigid trays present no sharp edges, resulting in a tray that is safe to insert into a pouch.

This pouch safe feature utilizes Plastic Ingenuity's patented inward flange technology providing peace of mind to the MDM. Ultimately, this innovation will provide MDM's the much desired option of placing a rigid thermoformed tray into a pouch without the risk of pinholes or sterile barrier reach.

THE ENGINEERING BEHIND SafeEdge

The SafeEdge technology is based on the inward flange platform engineered by Plastic Ingenuity. To execute this technology, Plastic Ingenuity has utilized its expertise in thermoform machine building, thermoforming, and tool building to design and build a specialized inward flange thermoforming machine to produce this new product line.

This patented technology utilizes a unique process to achieve a vertical flange that is trimmed inside the outermost formed features of the tray, resulting in a package edge that is very smooth and clean. Ultimately creating a tray with no sharp edges and presenting no potential puncture points for a pouch or inadvertent rubber glove.
