Cross Plains, WI: - Plastic Ingenuity (PI) was recently awarded two AmeriStar Awards by the Institute of Packaging Professionals. PI won awards for their innovation in the Pharmaceutical and Food categories. The awards will officially be presented to PI at the IOPP Packaging Summit this May held in Chicago.

Packages are judged based on various criteria determined for excellence in multiple categories. These categories include: innovation, product protection, economics, package performance, marketing, and environmental impact.

The first award was given to PI’s Help Remedies package. This package holds different pharmaceutical products such bandages, allergy medicine, ibuprofen, or other pills. The unique aspect of this package is that it is truly a “green” package. Plastic Ingenuity formed two molded fiber pieces and Team Technologies injected a blended PSM frame to make for easy opening and closing. Both of these materials are sustainable. Molded fiber thermoforming uses recycled paper and PSM (Plastarch Material) is a biodegradable, corn based product. Not only did this package win the AmeriStar Award, but it was a finalist for package of the year.

The second award was given to PI’s Culver’s Banana Split Boat. For 24 years of business, Culver’s always used stock products to serve their banana splits. These stock containers would often separate, and the ingredients would spill out. It would also leak once the frozen custard began to melt.

PI was asked to create a package that remained closed, and did not leak. The Culver’s Banana Split Boat was created and has been utilized by Culver’s ever since. PI was able to prevent the container from opening and leaking by creating a full perimeter snap feature.

Plastic Ingenuity has been a national leader in the light gauge custom thermoforming industry since 1972, and continues to pace the industry with its unparalleled innovation and R&D. For more information contact Plastic Ingenuity at 608-798-3071 or visit www.plasticingenuity.com.
