Creating Plastic Packaging That’s Ready for Retail Markets

Plastic Ingenuity specializes in helping companies create customized packaging designs, and throughout our experience, we have noticed that plastic packaging needs to meet various requirements to ensure it performs well in stores. A product’s packaging needs to be practical, protective and composed of the top plastic materials, all while having a memorable branded design. To help you create a packaging design that’s ready for retail markets, consider the following ideas. Custom Shapes As you are planning the packaging for your product, you need to make sure it’s compelling. Oftentimes, this means creating a customized packaging design that is unlike anything else on the shelves through the process of thermoforming. Some of the best plastic packaging styles have been created through customized thermoformed designs. You can try simple shapes, like with this Quick drink design, or you can take a less traditional approach, as the Glogi brand did. Of course, choose the packaging shape that works best for your product. Envision how you want your packaging to look on the shelves, and plan accordingly. Practicality More than anything, your plastic packaging...

Study Notes Benefits of Plastic Packaging

A new study sponsored by The American Chemistry Council (ACC) and the Canadian Plastics Industry Association has revealed that plastic packaging has significant benefits over other packaging alternatives. The study, titled “Impact of Plastics Packaging on Life Cycle Energy Consumption and Greenhouse Gas Emissions in the United States and Canada,” revealed that plastic packaging could actually reduce greenhouse gas emissions and total energy use compared to other packaging options created with substitute materials. The Packaging Study’s Results The study examined various plastic products, including beverage containers, caps, closures, shrink wrap, rigid containers, shopping bags and other types of packaging solutions. Those conducting the study used life cycle assessment methodology as they compared plastic packaging to substitute materials. After analyzing the life cycle value of six major plastic packaging options throughout the United States and Canada, the study found that plastics produce a lower weight compared to alternatives, which, in turn, results in reduced energy and greenhouse gas emissions. Comparing the Impact of Plastic Packaging and Its Alternatives According to Plastic Packaging Facts, plastic packaging substitutes weighed 348 percent more than...

See how your company can create convenient packaging your consumers will love. Why Pre-Packaged Food Products are Popular with Consumers The average American doesn’t have excess time to cook and prepare elaborate breakfast, lunches and dinners every day. Consumer Trends in Packaging: Part II

In the first part of our consumer trends packaging analysis, we provided you with an in-depth look at four considerations for plastic manufacturers. Now, we’re analyzing the top four consumer trends in plastic packaging. On-the-go lifestyles People don’t have time to wait around anymore. Consumers spend long hours in the office (and some even work multiple jobs), have other obligations, too. To match their busy lifestyles, they’re seeking foods that have already been prepared and ones that are easy to eat. This busy attitude transcends beyond food, too. Consumers want simple packaging that doesn’t take time for them to think, in terms of both structure and design. Simple packaging may only save consumers a few minutes or even seconds from their days, but that’s what they need. Brand Enhancement / Differentiation In today’s diverse marketplace, companies have to stand out now more than ever. Companies need to create a brand for themselves with their plastic packaging. This could come with a new structural design or graphic. Whatever companies choose for the packaging, they need to remain recognizable and relevant...

Consumer Trends in Packaging: Part I

At PI, we like to examine consumer trends, as well as the reasons why these trends are occurring. Recently, we have been analyzing market trends and reports to gain insights as to how consumers are behaving and how the packaging world can develop solutions to follow accordingly. In the first part of our series, we’ve outlined some of the top consumer packaging trends and considerations. Older Population Older generations seek out products in no-fuss packaging. They want products with easy-to-read labels and ones with packaging that is uncomplicated to open. Companies usually will not customize a general product’s packaging for one market. However, companies that produce products with the elderly in mind, like remote controls with enlarged text, could package their products in simple, easy-to-open blister plastic packaging for added convenience. Recycling Consumers today think about sustainability.  While a “green” product may not be the sole reason consumers buy a product, environmentally-friendly products do still play an important role in purchases. At PI, we recognize this and have taken our Green Ingenuity initiative to produce responsible plastic packaging. Smaller...
